The Passover
by Tales of 2Timothy1.7
I felt the need to share with you this word a few days ago, but wanted to study it a bit more before putting the blog out. As I was writing and almost finished my text, I didn’t realise which day it was untill I checked on the calender and saw that today is the 8th of April, the first day of Passover…
In my attempt to understand the current situation I turned to the scriptures to find an answer and I found something interesting that I would like to share with you.
When you look in the scriptures, there is one particular story that can be related to what we are currently experiencing, the story of the Passover. This is found in Exodus 11-14. I would highly recommand that you read this for yourself in the scriptures to have better picture but here is an illustration: The Israelites were working as slaves for the farao and his people. The Creator of all things sent Moses to ask the farao to let His people go but the farao didn’t want to.
Therefore The Creator of all things let Moses and Aron to perform several wonders in farao’s land because they didn’t believe in the word of G-d.
In total there were ten pleagues sent up on the land, but the most remarkable one, the one we can relate to in the current situation is the Passover.
This is when The Creator of all things told Moses that He will go through farao’s land and strike down every first born in every household but will pass over the house holds of the Israelites as they were instructed to put the blood of a young lamb that had no defect on their door frame, on the top and the sides. The pleague took place even farao’s first born was taken by the Creator of all things on that night.
The instructions given by Moses to the Israelites regarding the Passover were as follow: ((Exodus 11.23-24))
“None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down”
When you read this you can see some similarities with the current situation:
– people are asked to stay indoors
– there are lives taken in many house holds
– what I didn’t even know and only realised as I was studying to write this is the fact that all of this takes place in early spring, just as the first passover took place according to the scriptures.
Now you may wonder, do we need to put the blood of a lamb on our doors to be saved? Well if you are accustomed to this, then do whatever your authorities tell you. But I am going to tell you what this symbolizes in Christianity.
As Christians we believe in the same Creator as the Children of Israel.
According to the old testament, which is relatable to the Torah, to be redeedmed from our mistakes we had to offer a young lamb without any defect, like it is illustrated in this story, by the slaughtering of the lamb. But in the new testament this changed. We still had to be redeedmed as we are humans and still make mistakes. But the Creator of all things sent His only Son, who had no sin(no defects) to be crucified (slaughter) on the cross (symbol for sacrifice), He was bruised and through His blood we have redemption and as the scriptures says in 1.Peter 1:18-19:
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
This is such a vast concept, there is so much to say about this. It’s amazing that as I am writing this, I am learning so much my self. But it was important for me to share this with you today. As you need to know that according to the wtitten law of the scriptures, we the Children of G-d have been redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for us but you need to believe this and declare this over your life. As written in Galatians 3.13-14.
So I would encourage you to take the time and read the scriptures for yourslef, learn all about this and declare it over your life and your households so that Nothing shall by any means hurt you for the Lord our G-d will be with us wherever we go.
